Born in September 1979, Artist Jason Baldridge says his early years were “a blur” until the summer of 1984, when he camped out in the open wilderness for the first time. Fishing under a bridge and using only salmon eggs as bait on his push-button Zebco rod & reel combo, underwater life would cringe forever after. For the moment he caught his first fish, an insatiable desire to continue his amphibious hunts was born. This initial excitement of “slaying” fish would continue to manifest itself for years to come throughout all of the lakes of Southern California , as well as within the realm of his artistic eye.
During these years Jason began exploring the world of Art, in particular, drawing and painting. He started simply by copying the works of various comic book artists. Then his visions became heavily influenced by his favorite horror movies (Friday the 13th, Silver Bullet, Nightmare on Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Howling, etc…) and a wide range of musical groups (Immortal, Mayhem, Deceased, Mortician, Slayer…). After graduating high school, Jason attended Chaffey College to pursue a career in graphic design. By this point he had developed an original style all his own through the study of Francise Bacon, Salvador Dali, Max Ernst, and the musical genius of Pink Floyd. He began using a ball-point pen as the primary tool for much of his work. In 2000, he graduated from Chaffey and transferred to Cal Poly Pomona where he received a BA in graphic design with an emphasis in Fine Art.
It is Jason’s instinctive and pure intent to succeed as an accomplished freelance artist. With exhibitions throughout the San Bernardino and Los Angeles Counties , he is truly on his way. Most recently, he completed an 8ft x 24ft backdrop for the recent high-end production of Alice in Wonderland - the Musical. Jason says his heart “flows with the black ink from a ball-point pen” though he commands other mediums as well. Whether it be through ink or painting, Jason’s illustrations never fail to leave a stunning, sometimes disturbing, impression. |
